Kong: Skull Island

PLOT

Post-WWII, 1944, sees two pilots, an American and a Japanese, parachute onto an Island after an aerial combat. They indulge in a physical duel, with the Japanese pilot gaining the edge. Suddenly a huge monster halts the fight, causing both soldiers to flee.

Three decades later,1944, James Conrad is recruited by a government representative Bill Randa to lead an expedition to map out, "Skull Island". James is a former British Special Air Service Captain. Also hired by Randa are the Sky Devils, a helicopter squadron led by Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard and predominantly made up of his right-hand man, Major Jack Chapman and Captain Earl Cole to accompany them to the island. Pacifist Photojournalist, Mason Weaver soon joins the group. He intends to leak out the mission believing it is a corrupt military operation.

Hovering above Skull Island, explosives developed by seismologist,Houston Brooks, are dropped,  to determine if the ground is hollow despite Conrad's objections. The helicopters are suddenly attacked by a large ape known as 'Kong', and many are killed, with the survivors cast into two groups. The survivors only hope for rescue is a resupply team that will meet them at the island's northern end in three days time. Randa opens up on  his affiliation to the secret government organization Monarch to Packard and the expedition's true purpose to acquire proof of the existence of forgotten monsters.

The dead amongst the survivors are buried by Parker and his men and the search for the remaining survivors of the expedition is began, including Chapman. As they move along the way, they are able to overpower the onslaught of a  huge spider. In the meantime, Conrad, Weaver, Brooks and their group run into a large buffalo-like creature, consequently discovering that Kong isn't the only monster that lives on the island. The group then encounter the local Iwi natives and meet Hank Marlow, who is the missing pilot who crash-landed on the island in 1944 with the Japanese pilot. Marlow explains that Kong is the island's guardian and is worshipped as a god by the natives for protecting them from the Skullcrawlers, reptilian underground monsters who have slaughtered Kong's ancestors, leaving him as the last of his kind. Marlow reveals Kong only attacked the helicopters to prevent the bombs from awakening the largest of the Skullcrawlers, the "Big One". Miles away, Chapman witnesses Kong wrestle and kill a large squid, causing it to run into the woods, where it encounters a Spore  Mantis and soon afterwards is eaten by a Skullcrawler.

Comrad's group sets off down the river in a boat retrieved by Marlow, where they are beset by pterosaur-like creatures, killing Nieves. The survivors manage to connect with Packard, who insists on searching for Chapman. Marlow leads both Conrad and Packard's team unwillingly to the Forbidden Zone, a forgotten battleground between Kong's ancestors and Skullcrawlers. The same Skullcrawler that ate Chapman attacks the group, consuming Randa and killing many soldiers before Weaver kills it by triggering an explosion. A vengeful Packard blames Kong for the death of his men and retrieves seismic explosives to lure Kong into a trap and kill him, while Conrad resolves to lead the non-military personnel back to the boat so they can rendezvous with the supply team.

While threading the path ahead, Conrad and Weaver encounter Kong and resolve to save him, a feeling shared by Marlow . Packard's trap immobilizes Kong, and he calls out on his men to set explosives around the Monster. Before he can kill the ape , Conrad's group arrives and a standoff ensues. Conrad and Weaver convince the other soldiers to spare Kong, but Packard furiously refuses, now seeking vengeance for his fallen men. The group is suddenly attacked by the Big One, an Alpha Skullcrawler dubbed "Ramarak". The group flees while Packard tries to detonate the explosives. Kong recovers and kills him. Injured, Kong is overpowered by Ramarak, who then chases the survivors as they race towards the shore. Cole is killed when his suicide attempt on Ramarak fails, cornering the humans in the process, Kong returns to rescue them and aided by the humans successfully kills Ramarak by ripping its gut out through its mouth. With the Skullcrawler defeated, Kong allows the surviving humans to leave. Sometime afterward, Marlow returns home and is reunited with his family.
