THE WEEKEND AT THE BOX OFFICE - JANUARY (5 - 7)


JUMANJI PREYS ITS WAY TO THE TOP





The first weekend at the Box-Office 2018, winner goes to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Sony Studios jungle-hit preyed its way to the top, capturing the top-spot, for the first time in its third week of release with a mammoth $36 Million above debutant Insidious: The Last Key. A total of 3,801 theatres saw to the weekend gross thereby bringing its Total gross since its opening weekend, 3 weeks back, to $244 million.
This is absolutely impressive as its total gross places it within the top ten of the highest grossing movies of 2017, where it ranks at number 9. To put it into better perspective, it presently has a total gross more than The Fate Of The Furious and Justice League. Who is to bet it wouldn't crash into 2017's - Top 5.

Pulling its weight in second(2) is Insidious: The Last Key. The fourth instalment of Universal studios Franchise scared its way to a princely $29 million from 3116 theatres. An impressive result in its opening weekend. 

Running Insidious: The Last Key close in third(3) position is Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with $23 million from 4232 theatres. This sees it slip from first to third this weekend. It however has a Total-gross of $572 million.

Maintaining its position from the past week at number four (4) is Fox Studios, The Greatest Showman. Its third weekend since its opening day leaves it with $23.5 million in the bank to give it a Total-gross of  $75.9 million. An achievement for a film with mixed to poor reviews.




Universal Studios third weekend of Pitch Perfect 3, holds nicely at number (5) with a weekend gross of $10.2 million from 3,458 theatres. This leaves it with a Total-gross of $85.9 million after 17 days.

Climbing down a step to 6th is Fox's animated-hit,  Ferdinand, with $7.7 million and a Total-Gross of $70.49 million while Molly's Game rose into the Top 10 at number (7) with a Weekend total of $7 million and a Gross-total of $14 million. Also maintaining its position this week at number (8) with $6.3 million is Darkest Hour, after expanding by 790 theatres from the past week it is boosted to a Gross-total of $28 million. Disney Pixar's seventh weekend of  Coco followed with $5.1 million at 1,894 cinemas, giving the animated comedy a princely Total-gross of  $192 million. Rounding up the top 10 with $3.6 million from 2123 theatres is All The Money In The World for a fortnight gross of $20.2 million.
